Moving Mountains in Midlife

Today's reading: Matthew 17:20, Matthew 7:13–14

There is genuine hope for our future even though the obstacles confronting us may seem like mountains blocking our way. Do you identify with any of these mountains—past regrets or disappointments, marriage struggles, health issues, adult children problems or financial difficulties? If so, it’s encouraging to remember what Jesus told us about our faith in Him: “For truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”

We’re after a life that knows God personally and experiences Him moving mountains for us. There’s no secret formula to it; only proven biblical principles that can guide us along the right path. Jesus described it like this: “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” It is important to remember that Jesus is both the gate we are to enter by and the way we are to travel on. He is the key to everything!
